Description
As part of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Guy Bosquet, the Municipal Administration and the Tourist Office of Herbeumont are pleased to present this commemorative exhibition dedicated to an artist deeply attached to his native village. Born in Herbeumont on August 27, 1926, Guy Bosquet left a lasting mark on the local artistic memory through the diversity of his talent. A painter, draftsman, and illustrator, he developed a personal body of work in which observation of reality, the poetry of landscapes, and precision of line come together. His path led him from Herbeumont to Brussels, where he trained in decorative arts. Very early recognized for his drawing skills, he developed a demanding practice, nourished by drawing, color, and composition. His oils, watercolors, gouaches, sanguines, and Indian ink works devoted to Ardennes landscapes bear witness to his attachment to nature, to his village, and to the atmospheres of his region. Guy Bosquet also stands out for a very personal technique combining watercolor and Indian ink, which he referred to as “enhanced pen,” giving his compositions great graphic finesse. This way of working makes his universe immediately recognizable, balancing pictorial delicacy with the strength of drawing. From 1956 to 1977, he worked as an illustrator for the railway magazine Le Rail, confirming his sense of detail and visual storytelling. His work also opened up to other horizons, notably through his links with the world of French chanson via the frescoes he created at the WWF village in Cap d’Agde around figures such as Georges Brassens and Jacques Brel, while also drawing inspiration from the landscapes and spirit of the Camargue. Exhibited in Herbeumont, Florenville, Neufchâteau, Chiny, Libramont, Sainte-Cécile, Brussels, Paris, London, Rome, Barcelona, Munich, Geneva, and Cap d’Agde, Guy Bosquet nevertheless remains inseparable from his native territory. He passed away on November 4, 1985, and rests in Herbeumont, where his memory remains alive. Through this exhibition, we invite you to rediscover not only the artist, but also the man and the sensitive witness of a region. These works speak to us of a country, a time, and the взгляд of a creator who was able to transform familiar landscapes into images of memory.
Free admission - Exhibition open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
